founder of Investing in Bliss, empowering women to achieve financial freedom and happiness

Hi, I’m Ardette. Like many women I work with, I reached a turning point. After 10 years of working in higher education I thought "there has to be more to life than this". The dreaded morning drive, the "allowed" months we could take vacation, the mediocre raises for most while some got hefty increases behind closed doors, the constant push to do more with less (resources and people)--gave me a clear picture of what my life would look like if I waited 30 years to retire. I didn’t want my happiness, financial security, or retirement to depend on any one employer. The reoccurring Sunday night sadness, salary that never quite stretched far enough, realizing the work no longer suited me, AND the thought of having to endure twenty more years of the same...all contributed to my decision to prioritize myself and my happiness and find an early exit plan. I realized if I wanted to live the life I'd dreamt of... I had to create it myself. No employer was going to do it for me.

That realization changed everything. I invested my time, money, and energy in what mattered most: My joy, finances, wealth, and freedom so that I didn't HAVE to work to truly LIVE like I wanted.

I got clear on my version of a bliss life. This was a life where I could spend as much time with family and friends as I desired, a life where I could enjoy leisurely mornings sipping my coffee without having to rush off to work for an employer that didn't value me. A life where my ability to live comfortably was not determined by an employer. A life where I could go on a vacation as often as I wanted without having to get approval....I wanted a life that brought me happiness, peace of mind, time freedom, and financial security in ways that were authentically me.

Today, I help women create their work-optional life. Too many women give too much of themselves to their employers, only to find themselves disrespected, undervalued, and underpaid. They become financially vulnerable, and emotionally drained if they are pushed out at a certain age, laid off, restructured, or fired. I’ve seen firsthand the mental and physical effects, stress, sacrifice, and fear women face when they are completely dependent on an employer for their livelihood, and it is not pretty. But it doesn't have to be this way.

Life has shown that the best time to take action and create the life you want now and in the future is while you are still employed. Ladies, prioritize yourselves and your families by utilizing your employer and their benefits to help you create your work-optional life.
